Priya Matharu

Hello! My name is Priya Matharu and I’m an award winning radio presenter from Birmingham. I have covered shows on BBC Radio, BBC WM and currently present Desi Beats and Monday Mornings on Switch Radio. Desi Beats is a 2 X Gold winner at the Community Radio Awards in the Best Specialist Music Show category. The show features the best in Asian music, and interviews with upcoming Asian artists to champion future talent in Desi music. I have also interviewed established artists / producers including Jay Sean, Rishi Rich, Metz N Trix and Nish.

I started radio presenting on Student Radio whilst studying BA (Hons) Broadcast Journalism at the University of Salford. I had a weekly show on Shock Radio, where I won Silver Best Specialist Show at the Student Radio Awards 2019.

I have also hosted many events, including: Nations and Regions – Media Futures, featuring BBC Three, YouTube Originals and VICE Media, the Birmingham Music Awards Christmas Event and Glastonbudget. I was a guest speaker on the Journalism’s Rising Stars Panel alongside BBC Digital Cities.

I have done online presenting for Punjab2000, which is a Punjabi news and entertainment platform. I present the Top 10 Punjabi Music Charts and the week’s new music releases.

In addition, I have made multiple appearances on TV and radio. I took part in a live TV debate on BBC News about Brexit. I have also featured on BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio 4 and done voiceover work for BBC Radio 5 Live on a montage, which promoted the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019.
